Let’s talk about Shakilla, shall we ?

In a country where mothers are literally boiling stones to dupe their kids to fall asleep without eating while leaders are actively shifting goalposts on where funds meant for Covid-19 disappeared to, one shouldnʻt really be surprised by the inreased ʻimmoralʻ activities in the country. The same country where a mother gives birth infront of a hospital gate as our glorified waheshimiwas pass bills to approve monthly perks of 100,000 for their retired colleagues. The same country where gospel artistes pray that gay men descend on their enemies and rape them in broad daylight.

By now, you should be acquainted with the Shakilla story that has been the mainstay on our social media platforms for the last couple of days. If not, get a social life. Really.

I donʻt want to join the bandwagon of calling her names and hurling imprintable words at her cause methinks that is beside the point. Who knows? Maybe I have done worse its just that I havenʻt gotten a platform to let you all in to my secrets. Plus, I may not be that religious but I bet the Holy Book says something in the line of judging being a preserve for the Almighty and the Almighty alone.

Thing is, this is the society we live in. A society where women are objectified as sex tools. A society where young ladies sleep with old men to make ends meet. A society where ladies bleach their skins, go for boobs and asses implants to be sexually appealing to the opposite gender that is way more than financially stable with an insatiable sexual appetite. Moral decadence or business opportunity ? You decide.

“Respect and love your hustle.” Thatʻs Shakillaʻs mantra daily. She is 19 years(you can add just 19), I canʻt really say she has experienced the tough and ugly side of unemployment yet but it is from her hustle, the one she wants people to respect, that she gets paid from and meet all her needs. However, imagine a 26 year old out here, who has walked into all the offices she can think of, dropped a million and one mails but still canʻt get a job that sits right with the morally uptight society because she doesnʻt have 10 years experience. Never mind she graduated the other day. But… but, she has that type of a figure that turns heads. A figure that a 62 year old would be willing to pay for just to peruse the heavenly anatomical features that come with the body. See ! I just objectified women. Sad.

The same same generation that raised us is the same same generation that is criticising us. The same generation that couldnʻt provide job opportunities or provide conducive environments for businesses to thrive in are now ranting on top of their voices,”Akii watoto wa siku hizi.” Listen, I am not supporting what Shakilla does(especially with the remote), she clearly needs help. All I am saying is, maybe she didnʻt have any other option to make money, and she really needed it, and decided to throw morality and whatever the society thinks to the gutter.

Our minds are so used to sexual innuendos that one canʻt say I want stick in reference to butter or Chuma ya Doshi in reference to iron sheets without one quickly thinking about sex. I ask again, moral decadence or a business opportunity ? Shakilla and the many other Shakillas out here get paid because they identified their niche in the sexual insatiability of men, and ladies alike. Its paying them. More than the delayed Kazi Mtaani/Vijana slaries will ever pay them. Or maybe an office job. “Respect my hustle.”

That said, that doesnʻt mean just because life is hard and we keep on electing leaders who do us no good, you should go about hawking your body to the highest bidder. Behave!

I said I wonʻt judge the many Shakillas we have around. But let me say this, her behaviour is not one Iʻd like to see in my sisters or my future wife and more importantly my future daughter(s) if Iʻll be blessed to have any. My point is, shunning her and calling her womanhood four times older than her is missing the point. Totally. Where are her parents ? Why did she decide to get into this high-end, for lack of a better word, prostitution ? At such a young age ? Does she intend to quit at some point to concentrate on what we the judging society want ?

Shakilla isnʻt the problem. And if she is, only partly. After a few weeks, tutakuwa tumemsahau. She is just an eye-opener to societal ills in this country. Stop the pretence and fight the problem, not the messengers. Ni hayo tu.

WHY CHELSEA WON’T FINISH IN THE TOP FOUR THIS SEASON

By Martin Moses.

Frank Lampard is man under siege.

He cut a frustrated figure when asked whether Chelsea intended to push through and get some new names before the impending closure of the transfer window. The decision to rescind Chelseaʻs transfer ban by the Court of Arbitration had been met with a lot of hope from the Blue faithful that Lampard may be able to get some quality additions in January. And rightly so, the rumours began. Chelsea were linked to English sensation Jadon Sancho whom its said they were willing to pay the asking price of $100 million to lure him out of Signal Iduna Park. Chelsea pondered whether to activate Nathan Akeʻs buy back clause or move in for Wilfried Zaha. They asked whether RB Leipzig would let go of Timo Werner before romanticizing Krzysztof Piatek who eventually went to Hertha Berlin. Imagine.

As Lampard fielded questions prior to that game against Leicester, he confirmed that not even Dries Mertens will be joining the London-based club. Letʻs face it, Chelsea is precariously hanging by a thread in fourth position with tell-it-all signs that qualifying for the lucrative Champions League next season would be a tall order.

Lampard came in with the inexperienced tag on his back. Got his footing after three gameweeks and turned his young prospects into a formidable side. This went on for a few weeks before finally falling to the leagueʻs defending champions Manchester City. Then came in the inconsistencies. It will be safe to say that Chelsea hasnʻt registered a comfortable victory save for the back to back London Derby victories which showed grit, resilience and desire to fight.

Learn to give credit where its due. Lampard seems to have broken the number 9 hodoo at Chelsea through Tammy Abraham. Thirteen Premier League goals and counting without a single penalty on his full debut season is no mean fete. The rebirth of Mateo Kovacic who looked lost under former manager Maurizio Sarri is another thing that Lampard deserves props for. Plus the opportunities academy products have been accorded in the first team : Recce James, the recently departed Tariq Lamptey, Marc Guehi and Billy Gilmour.

But; here is why Chelseaʻs lack of business spells doom on its chances for qualification. I am a Chelsea fan, sadly, and Iʻm going to put this bluntly, Chelsea wonʻt finish in the top four. Unless of course some drastic changes have taken place. Kepa Arrizabalagaʻs recent howlers have done much to convince a lot of people that he shouldnʻt be Chelseaʻs first choice goalkeeper. The worldʻs most expensive custodian has let in cheap goals that has cost Chelsea valuable points. In fact, he sits last in save percentage in the Premier League this season having only saved 55% of the shots he has faced. Problem is, his back up is Willy Caballero, a 38 year old who for lack of a better term, Iʻd call an improved version of Loris Karius. Remember the 2018 World Cup when he gifted Ante Rebic a goal as Croatia ripped Argentina apart ? Say no more.
In Kepaʻs defence, his backline hasnʻt been stout either. Actually, Lampard has fumbled with his selection juggling between Kurt Zouma, Fikayo Tomori and Andreas Christensen. Since making his comeback from injury, Antonio Rudiger seems to be the only permanent figure in the CB pairing but I have a problem with his gungho style of defense which doesnʻt befit a top club with a different style of play. But that is a story for another day. Azpilicueta has been shifted back to his natural left back position to accomodate the rising Recce James whose crosses have been something akin to what TAA does for Liverpool. This has been made easy by poor displays from Marcos Alonso and Emerson Palmieri who have done little to convince Lampard and Jody Morris why they should be accorded a starting berth.

At the centre of the cog, Lampard doesnʻt seem to know when to play 2 midfielders, 3 midfielders , in what capacity and who ahead of the other. Forget Jorginhoʻs underwhelming start to EPL life last season, he is a pass master. Play goes through him as he dictates it. One of the best in the trade, only second to Sergio Busquests. I have already talked of Mateo Kovacic. His ability to drive the ball forward and pick out runs of players is indispensable. Walks in NʻGolo Kante. Arguably Chelseaʻs highest rated player after Hazardʻs exit last year. One can argue that Kante has become obsolete to Chelseaʻs demands and you wonʻt be able to offer a substantial rebuttal. He is being played out of position and looks lost most of the times but what do we say about class? Itʻs permanent. And that is Lampardʻs headache.

Upfront Lampard is spoilt for options but in his array of options, breaking down teams that have been set up defensively has been a challenge. Cristian Pulisic has been racking up goals and assists, so has Mason Mount and Willian. And like the rest of the departments, inconsistency has been the major undoing. Why should a top six club fail to kill the opponent despite having numerous chances to do so.

After 25 games,Chelsea has lost 8 times. The same number of times Maurizio Sarri lost the whole of last season enroute to finishing number three. Is it a case of being over-confident in Lampardʻs abilities, lack of qualified and proper players, the pressure of being a top six club or just a blatant disregard of the clubʻs hierachy to back its manager ?

Sitiing four points behind, Tottenham has bolstered its ranks effectively. Drafting in Steven Bergwijn, Gedson Fernandes and making Lo Celsoʻs move permanent should make Jose Mourinho forget about Christian Eriksen and give him the impetus to fight for a top four finish or even silverware, Harry Kaneʻs injury notwithstanding.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaerʻs Manchester United finally had their man in Bruno Fernandes and got Odion Ighalo on loan to cover for the impressive Marcus Rashford. OGS has survived calls for him to face the chop. Knows when to win to save his job. Picture this, Paul Pogba and Scott McTominnay returning to team up with Bruno who hit insane numbers in the Portuguese Primera Liga. Itʻs just a matter of if the combination can tick and trust you me if that if becomes a reality, I donʻt see anything stopping the Red Devils from returning to the elite competition.

Arsenal being Arsenal brought in Cedric Soares and Pablo Mari to work their leaky defence. Mikel Arteta seems to have a vision but whatʻs vision without results. How he intends to turn them into serious contenders remains to be seen especially with his key players dip in form.

I wonʻt even mention the upstarts in Sheffield United, Wolverhampton Wanders and Evertonʻs resurgence under Carlo Ancelloti who want a place at the big boys table.
Lampard needs a working formula and he needs it fast. The next four weeks will determine where Chelsea finish the season as he faces European powerhouses in quick succession. Talk of Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspurs, Bayern Munich home and away, Liverpool and the rest.

He should get solace from the return of Ruben Loftus-Cheek who will be like a new signing but after such a serious injury we donʻt know which RLC is coming back. Is it the same RLC who terrorised defences at will last season or the RLC whose perfomances were so pathetic that he had to be shipped to Crystal Palace on loan ? What will Lampard do with the senior players in the squad and get the best out of them? How will he be able to get 3 points from Chelseaʻs bogey teams consistently? And get them comfortably the way a top club needs to ?
How ?

Thing is, Chelsea only looks better because it’s rivals are dropping points at the same rate as they are. But on a closer introspection and from where I stand, Chelseaʻs problems seem to be more deep rooted.

Because for now, top four seems to be escaping the grasp of the Roman Abramovich owned club.
